Pumice

Italian pumice for drainage in custom mixes and Pro substrates.

Arber Pumice is an inert raw material of natural Italian volcanic origin, sourced from a consolidated supply chain. Available in two granulometries — 3–8 mm in 50 L Bag and Big Bale, 3–5 mm in Big Bale — for custom mix formulation and integration into Pro substrates for medium- to long-cycle plants.

Features

Pumice is a porous, lightweight volcanic rock. Arber Pumice provides high drainage capacity and root oxygenation while maintaining chemical inertness over the medium and long term. Available in two granulometries — 3–8 mm for medium-to-coarse repotting mixes and long-cycle substrates (main structural component of Arber volcanic-based substrates), and 3–5 mm for mixes calibrated for rapid drainage.

Added at calibrated rates to peat-based substrates, pumice maintains drainage and oxygenation even after many months on the bench. This is a specific requirement for long-cycle container plants and species sensitive to waterlogging. Italian pumice from a consolidated supply chain: consistently from the same extraction basin, season after season, to ensure batch-to-batch quality continuity. 30 years of selected supply chain and 7 million m³ of substrates produced since 1996.

Why choose it

  • Italian pumice, classified 3–8 mm, stable mineral material over time.
  • Stable structure for 3+ years: no biological degradation, no structural collapse in the container.
  • Neutral pH and air capacity >40%: does not alter the substrate profile.
  • Structural backbone for long-cycle outdoor container plants.
  • Available in 50 L Bag and Big Bale for nursery volumes.

Why use it

Structural backbone of mixes

Stable mineral material over time: the physical structure remains constant throughout the plant cycle.

Consistent drainage and oxygenation

High air capacity and porosity: rapid drainage in large pots and long-cycle outdoor containers.

Chemically inert, does not alter the profile

Neutral pH and stable mineral composition: no interference with fertilisation or mix additives.

Granulometries for every application

3–8 mm for medium-to-coarse repotting, 6–14 mm for outdoor ornamentals and in-ground landscaping.
