Hobby products Hobby substrates Cactacee
Leader specialist potting mix for cacti, succulents, and fat plants — fast-draining to prevent root rot.
Cactacee combines sand, perlite, blonde peat, black peat, potting soil, wood fiber, clay, and an integrated fertiliser in a balanced formula. It delivers fast drainage and controlled water retention for cacti, succulents, agaves, and echeverias.
Features
Cactacee is the Leader specialist substrate for spring repotting of cacti, succulents, agaves, echeverias, sedums, lithops, and all low water-demand plants. The mineral components — sand, perlite, and clay — ensure fast drainage. This is essential for creating the dry environment that succulents naturally need, and for preventing waterlogging.
The combination of blonde peat, black peat, potting soil, and wood fiber adds organic matter and controlled water retention. It keeps the right balance between drainage and moisture. The integrated base fertiliser supports the plant in the first months after repotting, reducing the need for frequent additional feeding.
Suitable for indoor pots (bright windowsill) and outdoor growing (sunny balcony, rock garden). For plants that need high water retention, or for acid-loving species, choose a specific potting mix. Packed in Italy with selected-origin peat, batch after batch.
Why choose it
- Fast drainage: sand, perlite, and clay ensure drainage within 24 hours, eliminating waterlogging that causes root rot in succulents.
- Balance between drainage and water retention: peat and wood fiber maintain the right moisture level without excess.
- Integrated fertiliser: supports the plant in the first months after repotting, without frequent additional feeding.
- Suitable for all succulents: cacti, agaves, echeverias, sedums, lithops, and similar plants.

When to use it
Use for spring repotting of cacti, succulents, agaves, echeverias, sedums, lithops, and other fat plants. Also suitable for autumn refresh of the substrate in existing pots. Use it both indoors (bright windowsill) and outdoors (balcony, rock garden).
How to use it
- Fill the bottom of the pot with a drainage layer of expanded clay, volcanic Lapillus, or gravel (3–5 cm). This step is especially important for succulents.
- Add Cactacee up to 2 cm below the rim of the pot.
- Transplant the plant, keeping the crown slightly above the substrate level. Do not water immediately after repotting.
- Wait 5–7 days before the first watering. This allows the roots to settle.
- After that, water only when the substrate is completely dry (check with your finger at 2–3 cm depth). Never leave standing water in the saucer.
