Organic growing medium for container and open-ground vegetable growing.
Bio Hortus is the Leader Bio organic growing medium for vegetables and herbs, in containers or open ground. It is based on Baltic peat, wood fiber, and mature green compost, with an integrated organic fertiliser that feeds the plant for around 60 days after repotting. Approved for use in organic farming.
Features
Bio Hortus is the Leader Bio organic growing medium developed for growing vegetables and herbs, in containers or open ground. The mix combines Baltic peat, wood fiber, and mature green compost in studied proportions. This gives a balanced structure: roots explore freely, and the medium holds moisture consistently.
The integrated organic fertiliser feeds the plant for around 60 days after repotting, with no chemical fertilisers. The mature green compost adds organic matter and natural soil biology. Good water retention reduces watering frequency in summer, especially in containers.
Bio Hortus is approved for organic farming. It suits growers who want to cultivate vegetables and herbs with an environmentally responsible approach. The Baltic peat comes from selected origins, extracted consistently from the same fields season after season, to ensure uniform quality batch after batch.

When to use it
Use Bio Hortus for spring sowing and repotting, for improving vegetable garden soil at the end of winter, and for filling pots, planters, and growing boxes.
How to use it
- Fill the base of the container with a drainage layer of expanded clay or volcanic Lapillus (3–5 cm).
- Add Bio Hortus to 2 cm below the rim, leaving space for watering.
- Transplant or sow at the depth shown on the seed packet.
- For open ground: work the soil to 20–25 cm depth and incorporate Bio Hortus into the top 10–15 cm. A 45 L bag covers approximately 4–5 m² as a soil amendment.
- Water thoroughly immediately after transplanting or sowing.
