Peat-reduced

Substrates with reduced peat content

Nathuro is the Arber line that brings the same peat-reduced formulation work developed on the professional side into the home garden. One universal product as a starting point, formulated with increasing shares of wood fiber, coconut fiber, and complementary organic matter to reduce the environmental footprint of the bag without compromising cultivation.

Nathuro still life composition: peat-reduced substrates for the garden centre

The green touch for your garden

Nathuro is the Arber brand for those looking for a substrate with a lighter environmental footprint without giving up performance. The peat-reduced line replaces part of the peat with other organic materials — wood fiber, coconut fiber, mature green compost — calibrating the peat content to reduce the impact of extraction while maintaining cultivation performance.

Round 1 of the Nathuro hobby line starts with the universal substrate Full Action. A formula designed to be the starting point of the peat-reduced transition at home: a bag that works for container vegetable gardens, flowering balconies, and general repotting, built on the same technical supply chain as the Arber professional catalogue. The next products will be developed based on field feedback from the first customers.

Nathuro packaging uses recycled materials, part of a broader Arber initiative on bag sustainability — see the Sustainability page for the full picture. Widespread distribution across garden centers, agricultural suppliers, and specialist gardening retailers in Italy.

Frequently asked questions — Nathuro

Questions about peat-reduced substrate

Four common questions about what peat-reduced means and how it performs at home compared to a standard potting mix.

What does “peat-reduced” mean and why reduce peat?

“Peat-reduced” means the substrate contains a lower share of peat. Peat is a raw material extracted from bogs and, on a human timescale, is not renewable: it forms very slowly. Replacing part of the peat in a substrate with other organic materials — wood fiber, coconut fiber, mature green compost — reduces the environmental footprint of the bag while maintaining the technical cultivation properties. Nathuro is the Arber line dedicated to this transition in the hobby market.

Is Nathuro Full Action the same as a Leader universal potting mix?

No. They are two universal substrates with different compositions. A Leader universal potting mix (e.g. Baltic Uniplus) has a higher peat content, calibrated for maximum cultivation performance. Nathuro Full Action replaces part of that peat with wood fiber, coconut fiber, and complementary organic matter, reducing the environmental footprint for the same range of uses (container vegetable gardens, balconies, general repotting). The choice between the two is one of positioning — heritage vs peat-reduced — not of quality.

Can I use Nathuro for acid-loving plants?

Nathuro Full Action is a universal substrate, calibrated for container vegetable gardens, flowering balconies, and general repotting. Acid-loving plants (azaleas, camellias, rhododendrons, blue hydrangeas, blueberries) require a substrate with a lower pH, calibrated to their specific needs. Round 1 of the Nathuro line does not include an acidophilic variant — for that use we recommend the Azalee e Piante Acidofile potting mix from the Leader line. The next Nathuro products will be developed based on field feedback from the first customers.
